Sorry, Vampire Weekend is not at all British, so therefore they cannot sound very, very British (they are infact from New York). I made an assumption based on what I thought I heard and I apologize to all my “supporters” for the gaff…I will be more vigilent in the future.
Best of 2008 (Part 8)
Vampire Weekend – Vampire Weekend
Very fun album with clever lyrics. I really like British bands that actually sound like they are from Britain, and these guys sound very, very British. This was one of my favorites from the last year. Must Hear: “Oxford Comma”, “A-Punk”
We Are Scientists – Brain Thrust Mastery
Honestly, I threw this one in at the end of the list to make an even number. This...
Best of 2008 (Part 7)
Stephen Malkmus – Real Emotional Trash
I am a huge Pavement fan, so it is not a stretch at all for me to get into a Stephen Malkmus solo project. The off-key canoddlings of this guy never cease to amaze me. The songwriting of Mr. Malkmus almost has a joke-like quality to it. It’s like every song he writes is just to poke fun at the music establishment. Must Hear: “Hopscotch Willie”,...
Best of 2008 (Part 6)
Ryan Adams & The Cardinals – Cardinology
Although this album was no “Easy Tiger”, I have yet to find a Ryan Adams album I don’t like. His alt-country sound continues to be refined with every record he puts out. It almost makes me want to put on a pair of snakeskin boots. Must Hear: “Go Easy”, “Evergreen”
Santogold – Santogold
I loved this album from the second I got it. Santogold’s voice...
Best of 2008 (Part 5)
Los Campesinos! – Hold On Now, Youngster
This was the first of the 2 albums these guys put out this year. It’s definitely got that kinda sound that makes you believe they are really enjoy making their music. This album is fun and light which makes it ideal for me. Must Hear: “Don’t Tell Me To Do The Math(s)”, “You! Me! Dancing!”
Of Montreal – Skeletal Lamping
Is it me or is this album more...
Best of 2008 (Part 4)
Jenny Lewis – Acid Tongue
I am a great admirer of her work with Rilo Kiley and the Watson Twins. She has one of my favorite female voices in the biz and shows it off in this clever and enjoyable solo effort. Must Hear: “Pretty Bird”, “Acid Tongue”
The Kooks – Konk
The whole album is just full of these super cutesy Brit-pop songs that I can’t help but secretly enjoy. I feel compelled to grin...
Best of 2008 (Part 3)
Girl Talk – Feed The Animals
Umm……AWESOME!! That’s all I got. Must Hear: “Shut The Club Down”, “Set It Off”
The Hold Steady – Stay Positive
These aged hipsters have struck gold again. I loved “Boys and Girls in America” and “Separation Sunday” and this album followed suit. The songwriting quality is great, the compositions are a wonderful blend of catchy guitar/piano melodies and cheeky...
The Best of 2008 (Part 2)
Cut Copy – In Ghost Colours
I honestly wasn’t a huge fan of electronic music going into this year, but I decided to give this album a spin after hearing their song “Lights and Music.” The album is pretty solid the whole way through and I would totally play it if I was a DJ at a Berlin dance club. Must Hear: “Hearts on Fire”, “Strangers In The Wind”
David Byrne and Brian Eno – Everything That...
The Best of 2008 (Part 1)
After being inspired by Pete’s movie list for the 2008, I have decided to follow suit for the music world. I have a rather sizable list of the best albums of 2008 and will try my best to put 2 new ones up every day or so. I will also be proceeding in alphabetical order as not to give one preference over the other. If anyone feels I have left out a very good album from this last calendar...
peterostrander:
New band name: Disciples of Beelzebub. Petrovsky van Hellwrath on guitar. Timothy “Slaughterbarf” Hackbarth on bass and blood transfusion. Kaitlyn Thriller on death’s head drums and keeping a beat. First album: If God made everything glorious, than who the hell made us? Cover art depicts the sky opening into a sea of flames and destruction. Mostly naked girls hang off of us, a la...

I think they misspelled his last name, it’s actually spelled P-L-A-Y-E-R
Researchers at England’s University of East Anglia Norwich looked into leadership styles and found that swearing can reduce stress and boost camaraderie among coworkers. Good luck, @#!$*%&*!
